Through your support, we are able to offer animals enhanced care or an opportunity for a second chance.
For the animals coming to National Humane Society from all over the country, National Humane Society is often the last resort. Some are pets who have lost their homes, some have never had homes and some are wild. Many are from rescue groups and shelters without resources to rehabilitate them. They come in all species, shapes and sizes.
Most of them are soon ready to go to good homes with permanent or foster families, which then creates space for new arrivals. For the small number of animals who are never quite ready for adoption, the Sanctuary becomes their home for life.
National Humane Society is a no-kill sanctuary. That means that animals are never killed for lack of space, but only in cases of terminal and painful illness when there is no reasonable alternative and when compassionate euthanasia is a gift to the animal.
The following species of animals are cared for at the Sanctuary:
- Dogs
- Cats
- Bunnies
- Horses
- Pigs
- Goats
- Sheep
- Donkeys
